Plant Tour to Guatemala

Antigua, Lake Atitlan,
Chichicastenango, Rio Dulce

December 6 - 12, 2019

We will be exploring beautiful country of Guatemala to explore and observe exciting species of Bromeliads as well as Orchids, Heliconias, Cacti, Aroids, Ferns, and many other exotic tropical plants. We will be covering a wide range of climates and terrain changes as well as a river trip on the Rio Dulce in Guatemala. Plant specialists will be part of trip to assist in the identification of plants.

We will also be visiting the beautiful colonial town of Antigua Guatemala, Chichicastenango - the best native crafts market in Central America and the volcano surrounded Lago de Atitlan. There are many beautiful crafts that can be purchased here including wood crafts, pottery and paintings.

The total price is approximately $2000, TBD. The cost of the trip includes all your meals except the day of arrival and dinner in Antigua, double-room hotel accommodations, transportation and all the fun you can have. The trip costs do not include your airfare, Guatemala departure tax, liquor, and souvenirs, etc… Single room accommodations arranged at a higher rate. Travel insurance is available and highly recommended for each person.

We are limiting the group so please act quickly. We can provide great references from botanical gardens and past adventurers. You must bring a smile, camera with plenty of memory cards and a desire to have a great time and an adventurous trip in a beautiful country with friendly people.

Trip Itinerary

Day 1: Saturday December 6 - Depart USA
Travel to Guatemala City for afternoon or evening arrival. After clearing immigration and customs you will be transferred to the hotel.

Day 2: Sunday December 7
After breakfast we will be traveling to Chichicastenango to visit the best native crafts market in all of Central America! Then will drive to the town of Panajachel on beautiful Lago De Atitlan. This is a very beautiful lake surrounded by three volcanoes.

Day 3: Monday December 8
After breakfast we will be touring the villages and towns around the Lago de Atitlan. These towns include Santa Caterina, San Antonia, San Lucas and end the day in Santiago Atitlan.

Day 4: Tuesday December 9
After breakfast we will be traveling to Antigua Guatemala. This is one of the most beautiful cities in Central America also surrounded by three volcanoes. Spend the evening in Antigua..

Day 5: Wednesday December 10
After breakfast we will drive towards Coban and will be making several stops to explore and photograph plants.

Day 6: Thursday December 11
After breakfast we will visit the Vivero Verapaz Orchid Nursery where they have over 600 species of orchids and bromeliads. Then drive to Rio Dulce making several stops along the way to explore plants.

Day 7: Friday December 12
After breakfast we will spend all day on the Rio Dulce. This is a beautiful river that runs from Lake Izabel to the Caribbean Sean. This is one of the most beautiful places in Guatemala!

Day 8: Saturday December 13
After breakfast we will drive to beautiful Mayan Ruins at Quirigua. Spend the evening in Rio Hondo.

Day 9: Sunday December 14
After breakfast drive a bromeliad nursery to explore the area for plants and spend the afternoon and spend the afternoon learning how bromeliads are commercially grown. Return to Guatemala City for the evening and our farewell dinner.

Day 10: Monday December 15 - Return to USA
After breakfast and checking out of the hotel, you will be transferred to Guatemala City International airport for your return trip to the United States. Unfortunately all good things must come to an end.
